Is Bahia Salinas a safe place to stay?

Yes it is! There aren’t problems even for your health: you don’t need vaccine. Local people is friendly and helpful. You can walk around or bike wherever you want. Just take the normal precautions

Where do you suggest to fly into?

The main airport is located in S. Jose’ (actually located in Alajuela, 30 minutes driving away): from there you are 4.5 hours away by bus/car from Bahia Salinas. We highly recommend to land in Liberia, the closest and other international airport of Costa Rica: this is only 1 hour driving away and we can easily pick up and drop off you with a private transportation.

Do I need a car to get there and go around?

Are there medical facilities if there is the necessity?

La Cruz town has a hospital and red cross. At Liberia (1 hour driving) there is a bigger hospital and there are even private clinics.

How is the climate?

Bahia Salinas is located up north of the Guanacaste province, considered the driest and sunny side of the country. There are 2 season in Costa Rica: the dry season called “Verano” from December to April, and the wet season called “invierno” from May to November. During the dry season it rains only a couple of days per month and during the wet season, it’s raining only few hours in the afternoon and just 2/3 days per week. Air temperature is constantly around 28°/32° Celsius (80°/90° Fahrenheit) all year around. You need a sweater only at night from the end of December until the end of January.

What can I do during my vacation?

At the Hotel we are specialized in water sports as kitesurfing, windsurfing and wakeboarding but we also organize tours with or 4X4 to different places: volcanoes (hot springs, water fall, boiling mud pots), national parks and beautiful beaches around. We also rent sea kayaks, snorkeling gear, surf boards. We can organize diving and sport fishing. A few minutes away, you can horse back riding or….you can just relax at the SPA of the Hotel

Where can I use internet?

At the kite center you can use internet for free. Connection is slow due to the fact that is trough phone line. In La Cruz, there is a faster internet point.

What else can I do except kitesurfing?

We organize tours to different beaches close by, rent a double sea kayaking, 2 windsurfing gear, snorkelling gear, land boarding gear. A few minutes away, you can horse back riding, rent last year windsurfing gears, diving. At one hour driving, there is Rincon de la Vieja volcano (hot springs, water fall, boiling mud pots) and Santa Rosa national park where is located the famous Witch’s rock surf spot.

How do I pay:

At the Hotel you can pay with credit card only the accommodation. We only receive cash for all the other facilities (tours, lessons, rentals, etc…). You can cash money at the ATM machines: there are several options in Liberia (recommended) and 2 banks in La Cruz but sometimes without enough cash available. If you don’t want to bring too much cash in Costa Rica, you can pay online before you come with Pay Pal or do a wire transfer in a account in Miami, FL (see details on the web site).

Why the kitesurfing school 2000 moved from playa Copal to playa Papaturro?

We decide to relocate the school on the next beach because of the better conditions that offer playa Papaturro:

The beach is almost 2 km long without "shore break" waves, so there is more space.
There are no people or boats around you to worry about.
There are less stones and shell on the sand.
The water is fairly flat, choppy only with more then 20 knots.
The wind is completely Side Shore which is very friendly and safe for kite surfers and this means that the wind is less gusty.
There are trees behind the beach to relax in the shadow and Copal beach don’t.
The Blue Dream Hotel has the best kind of accommodation for kiters and it offers safe storage facilities for the kite gear.

Are the instructors of the kite center certified?

The school has certified kite surfing instructors with a lot of experience. This is the first kitesurfing school of Central America, born in 2000.

How is the area for kite surfing?

The kitebeach Papaturro is located in a bay called Bahia Salinas. That is still wild and untouched by the tourism. This mean that you can kite surf in an uncrowded beach and disconnect for a while from the frenetic world. You can do a downwinder of 5/6 kms, visiting a reef with completely flat water, a protected island with tourquese water and finally surf little waves.

How are the wind and weather conditions all year around?

It’s very windy and dry from December to April. During November, and between May and August, it could rain some hours in the afternoon but still great wind. Only September and October are less indicated to come to kite surf (more rain and less percent of kiteable days) that’s why these are the only months that we are closed. Strong wind can be gusty so bring also a small “Bow” kite for such a days . Check out the wind reports on the web site and you can decide which kites to bring, depending on your capacities, weight and board you like to use. You need to wear a shorty only a few days per month, when cold fronts arrive from the north between the end of December and March but usually you don’t. Water temperature is constantly around 24°/30° Celsius (75°/85° Fahrenheit). Sun is strong. Bring a lycra and high protection water proof sun blocker.

Which kite sizes do you suggest to bring?

Conditions are variable day after day: if you take a 7 mts., 9mts., 12 mts. And 16 mts. You can kite surf every day! From January to March a small kite is definitely necessary, because the wind blows over 28 knots several days per month. The rest of the months, the more used kites is 12mt…the best size!!!

What do I need to bring ?

The beach has some stones and shells in certain areas, so booties are recommended especially for beginners that have to walk upwind. Then take sun blocker, lycra, sun glasses with bungee, hat, beach towel.

Can I buy kite surfing gear at the kite center?

We have new and second hand gear for sale: harnesses, boards and kites, cheaper then in the retail shops worldwide. We offer 20% discount on new gear and up to 60% discount on second hand.
